[GR Japan] Associate or Associate Manager (global health stakeholder engagement)

GR Japan is looking to recruit a bilingual (Japanese and English) public policy associate or associate manager for our office in Tokyo (Nagatacho), to support our work on global health and other Japanese public policy issues.  A key part of the role will be to support implementation of resource mobilisation projects for global health-related international organisations and management of a community of senior business executives in support of global health-related goals.

We are looking for a positive individual with at least three years’ experience working on global health-related matters (ideally in an international context), preferably with experience managing complex projects (ideally involving engagement with multiple stakeholders), as well as experience supporting senior officials/executives with research, briefings, policy documents and talking points in Japanese.  Experience in resource mobilisation projects to address global health issues would be a major plus.  Candidates should demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and outstanding professional qualities.

Duties include:

  • Develop and implement global health-related resource mobilisation strategies
  • Manage a community of senior business executives in support of global health-related goals, including organising meetings, preparing agendas, providing briefings, taking minutes, planning actions, developing strategy and outreach plans
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow client contacts and goodwill with relevant stakeholders, including drafting of necessary documentation
  • Help to implement strategic outreach and engagement plans with policy stakeholders, particularly in the field of global health, ODA, as well as foreign policy
  • Work with colleagues on a variety of important policy challenges
  • Conduct client-specific research into current policy issues and contributing to reports
  • All-round support as part of the GR Japan and GR Group team, including generating ideas and proposals for new business development


  • Fluent spoken and written Japanese
  • Fluent English, including high-level professional writing ability. Proficiency in other languages (especially Korean) would be a plus but is not required
  • Good university degree, ideally a master’s in a related subject, such as public policy, global health, healthcare, medical science, economics, politics, communications or international relations
  • At least three years of relevant experience, for example in government or government relations, politics, an international organisation, an NGO , or a related industry, such as global health, ODA, strategy consulting, etc.
  • Strong understanding of Japanese ODA and foreign policies and the policy-making process, and a working knowledge of Japanese government and politics is considered a strong asset
